• I'm so happy you've stopped by my blog! I hope you'll stay for a few minutes, take a look around, relax with a cold, bubbly beverage...

These days, I'm no longer working with clients. (What the future will bring, I cannot say!) You'll find me now at home, playing with my kids; and likely taking pictures of them, too!

{Hugs} and a huge thank you to the clients who have been so supportive over the years! I will miss shooting for you.

Easter! | Bethesda, MD family photographer

As the official photographer for my family, yet another holiday with lots of pictures of the kids, a couple with my husband, and, yup, not a single picture of me.  None-the-less, I continue to feel confident that I exist and that I matter, and I’m super excited about the pictures anyway.;)

Easter was especially fun this year, with a little girl to dress up (never thought I would enjoy doing that as much as I do!  Thank you Naartjie for making such adorable little girl clothes!”) and a little boy who, while not the most skilled at finding Easter eggs, was at the very least passionate about it!  Most importantly, we found all twenty eggs that the Easter Bunny (and Santa Clause, according to little Goofy) hid this year – whew!

Happy Spring, everyone!

Mommy and daughter | Alexandria, VA maternity photographer

When my little Goofy was born a little over 3 years ago, I had no local “mommy friends”, so I joined this great mom’s group in Virginia (one of the few Marylanders crashing that party!) – Mamistad.

This past Friday I got to photograph one of those first “mommy” friends, a little over a month away from having her second little girl!  We had fallen out of touch, and it was so amazing to see how much “baby” ‘M’ has grown up since I last saw her (barely walking!).  Mommy ‘E’ and her 3-year-old ‘M’ were just the sweetest mother-daughter pair, enjoying their special time before the new baby arrives.  And unlike my son, who seemed to have no idea that his sister was on her way, ‘M’ told me all about her baby sister, who lives in mommy’s tummy and is coming in May (smart kid!).  That new baby is so lucky to have such a wonderful sister, and a wonderful mommy.

Okay, on to the main event.  It has been so hard narrowing down the selection to include in this post (as you can see, I did a fairly poor “narrowing” job!).  There was the beautiful mother … the stunning little preschooler … the two of them together … and one very happy photographer!

Happy Easter!

Newborn (27 days old!) | Philadelphia, PA Baby Photographer ;)

This week I was invited up to the Philadelphia, PA area to photograph little baby “N”, almost 4 weeks old (just made it before the one month mark, whew!).   Both her human brother and her doggie brother put in an appearance, too.  ;)  Oh yeah, and Mom and Dad!  On one of the most beautiful days of the year so far, we were even able to go outside and enjoy the sunshine.

I would give a whole lot to know what that baby and doggie were thinking about in the first picture!

And for those of you who have actually asked “Why don’t you just bring your kids along?!”, well, I think the last picture, as my little Goofy assists his new friend “J” through the doggie door (which “J” had, to that point, ignored), says it all.  ;)  (Have to include a few outtakes, right?;)).

Stay tuned for baby “N”‘s birth announcement, coming next week!

April Contest! Win a free session!

Welcome to my first official photography giveaway.  My altruistic side has met my desire to explore new and exciting locations for outdoor photo shoots.  I’m looking for places with great sight lines (no parking lots or cars in the background), and/or safe for kids to run around, options for shade, great textures (maybe a funky building?), not too crowded (pictures on the mall, for example, can be hard to get without other people in the background), perhaps a covered area in case of sudden rain, who knows! — make sure to “sell” your location with a description of why you think it’s great, and photos or links to websites about it (if you can’t get pictures, feel free to enter anyway!).

The winner (or winners?!) gets a free photo shoot at the winning location!

Rules:

Email me about your favorite outdoor location for a photography shoot.  For this contest, the location must be within about a 30 minute drive (mid-day, not rush-hour!) of Bethesda, MD.  Don’t forget to make your case!

All submissions must be received by 11:59pm on April 9th (that’s a Friday, folks!).

Winning:

The winner will be notified later in April (to allow time to visit these fantastic locations, if necessary!).

Judging:  All judging will be done by yours truly.  Yep, pretty subjective.  Make your case strong!

The 1st place winner will receive a gift certificate for a free photography shoot.  You may redeem this yourself by the end of 2010, or pass it along to a friend.

3 runners up will receive a credit for 2 5×7 prints (must be same photo) or 1 8×10.

Gift certificate details:

Good for one (1) free photography session, redeemable for children’s portraits (including newborns), maternity, senior portraits, or an engagement session at the winning location (see “session info” for standard description of a photo shoot and what it includes).  That’s a $175.00 value — FREE to you, or fully transferable to a friend.

A note from Buitoni on taking better pictures ;)

This is the first in a set of related postings I have planned (hopefully they’ll be appearing about 2x a month) on taking better pictures, choosing camera equipment, and organizing your pictures.  This one is quick — just passing along a couple great resources to get you started.

Professional organizer Jody Morse Al-Saigh, of Picture Perfect Organizing (http://www.pictureperfectorganizing.com/), Washington, DC metropolitan area, posted the following set of suggestions for taking better pictures — a very succinct set and excellent tips!  Thanks for sharing, Jody!

Note: the tips were apparently scanned from a magazine ad for Buitoni pasta;)
